As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I believe that a person’s early life experience influences who we become and there is a tendency to repeat ways of relating to others. When we grow into adults we find ways of coping which offer some security because they are familiar. However, we can get ‘stuck’ in old ways of being in life which no longer seem to work. Therapy can help us find new ways to avoid repeating problematic life patterns.
Therapy sessions last for an hour and usually take place once a week or fortnight. In these sessions, you would take the lead to explore issues of concern. I might suggest some possible coping strategies, but mostly I will not give advice or tell you what to do. Instead I will aim to meet you in your world and join you in a journey towards finding your own preferred life path. I believe that with understanding, support and sensitive challenge people are able to make changes in their lives and relationships. My approach would be tailored to your needs as an individual. I also place a lot of trust in the healing power of a caring, supportive therapeutic relationship.

I am a UKCP registered Gestalt Psychotherapist. I work as a therapist in private practice from my private therapy room, as a school counsellor, within the mental health service and, in the past, I have been a specialist foster carer and a Human Resources Manager. I also currently co-facilitate the training of psychotherapeutic counsellors. I am also currently completing supervision training so that I can support other counsellors/therapists in their work.
I aim to help you to understand what is happening for you now in your life. Sometimes this means looking back into the past to understand how this has affected what is happening now. As we work together, we start to understand how things have become as they are. Within a safe, confidential relationship, we explore your experiences and find different ways of being which support you and help you move forward.
I believe that what has happened to us in our relationships in the past affects how we behave in life and relationships now. You will find me warm, approachable and knowledgeable as I offer you a safe, confidential environment.

OFFER OF FREE SUPERVISION
I am also a Supervisor in training on the UKCP Accredited Supervision Diploma at SCPTI. I am able to offer free supervision on a one-to-one basis.
This opportunity may be especially useful to therapists/counsellors who have a large caseload or who would like to take the opportunity to receive support in addition to regular supervision. If you are seeing another supervisor as well, then we would have to ensure your supervision is not duplicated. This can be done by bringing different clients and will enable us to keep clear boundaries.
I trained at Scarborough Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute, gaining two Diplomas in Relational Centred Counselling and Integrative Psychotherapy. I have run my own private practice for five and a half years, as well as providing affiliate counselling for larger organisations.
Please contact me from the details below if you are interested or if you would like more information.

Reg. MBACP. Foundation Degree and BA (Hons) Counsellor.
I am a BACP registered Counsellor. In addition to my private counselling practice in Scarborough, I work as a counsellor for a generic counselling service in Malton offering short-term (6 Sessions) and long-term (up-to 30 sessions). As a registered BACP member I work within their ethical framework and guidelines.
I was trained in person-centred, cognitive-behavioural and coaching models of practice and now work in a relational integrated way to suit individuals concerned. This means the relationship between a client and therapist is paramount and is what underpins your personal growth, increased awareness, healing and change. I facilitate this with you, in a shared therapeutic journey, by offering a safe, compassionate, supportive, confidential space to explore feelings and relationship stresses in a non-judgemental environment, where you can reflect and see yourself in a new light.
If you find yourself struggling with relationship problems, anxiety, ill health, low self-esteem, abuse and many other issues, I may be able to help you to understand what is happening in your life currently. Sometimes this will mean looking back into your past to understand how this has affected what is happening now. I believe in our natural ability as human beings to problem solve, heal and grow. However, I also recognise life’s events and circumstances can affect our potential to access this important part of ourselves.
I am committed to my ongoing professional development. I have attended a range of workshops and courses in the last couple of years on self-harm, domestic violence, sexual abuse, inner-child, transactional analysis, healing and resolution, trauma and the body and dissociation. I am reasonably flexible with days and evenings to suit you. If you have any questions about what counselling involves, please telephone or email me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
My professional fee is £35 for an hour with an initial first session fee at a reduced rate of £20.

I believe that happiness comes from having great energy and great relationships. If you can be really connected and loving and bring the energy you need to any situation then everything you need is going to come to you and most importantly you will be victorious. Without energy nothing exists and without nourishing relationships (particularly the one you have with yourself) everything in life can seem dull.
On my own journey I have found that the most useful tools I have come across for helping me develop great energy and great relationships have been Gestalt Psychotherapy and Kundalini Yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan). I feel so blessed to be able to bring these tools into your life now.
I currently work mostly from a designated room at my home near Pocklington in East Yorkshire. I also work from rooms in York and Hull. Skype or telephone sessions are available for those unable to get to these locations. Individuals, couples and groups welcome. So please do contact me. You can be assured that any questions you may have about therapy I will answer with kindness and compassion.
I am currently undertaking an accredited supervision diploma with Heward Wilkinson at Scarborough Counselling & Psychotherapy Institute validated by HIPC/UKCP. As such I am able to offer supervision to individual therapists and groups at a reduced rate of £25/ hour (60 mins).

I am a UKCP registered Relational Centred Psychotherapeutic Counsellor offering long-term in-depth psychotherapeutic counselling and short-term brief and focal counselling in private practice in Newcastle City Centre. My approach is warm, relaxed and compassionate.
Perhaps you have never felt like you fit anywhere. Perhaps you did not get the care you needed in childhood and wonder who you might be if only you were free to meet your potential. Perhaps a sudden trauma or life transition has made you question everything. As a relationally trained therapist, I am skilled in helping people to identify and heal from the ways they have been hurt in relationship, to develop more satisfying relationships with themselves and others and to find meaning in their lives.
Drawing on my 20 year-long experience of insight meditation practice, I integrate mindfulness into counselling where helpful. I also enjoy offering creative and symbolic ways of working, such as through drawing, working with clay, inner child work and play.

I am an integrative, person-centred counsellor which means that I am guided by you the client. We will work together to help you to identify areas of concern you wish to work with. I have experience of dealing with work place issues, having worked within the NHS, occupational health setting. This may include: adult bullying in the work place; change related anxiety; and entering retirement.
I use elements of CBT, psychotherapy and transactional analysis where appropriate. I am also experienced in supporting clients who wish to address issues relating to ADHD and Aspergers.
I have also established counselling services within a local secondary school and worked with victims of crime and trauma related issues within the emergency services. Other concerns clients may bring could be, for example, loss, bereavement or anxiety and panic related symptoms.
By working collaboratively we can explore troublesome thoughts and feelings whilst working towards enabling you to experience more control in your life and achieving your goals. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions you would like to put before committing to a session.
I provide Clinical Supervision to both Therapists in training and experienced Therapists. I also provide consultation to Organisations. Organisations, in particular, who work with client groups who have experienced complex PTSD. My interest is, in particular, providing Specialist Clinical Supervision to Therapists who may be exposed to vicarious Trauma. This may be because of working with clients who have experienced extreme incidents or therapists who are working with clients who have suffered, for example, domestic violence, road traffic accidents, victims of crime. Work where the therapist is exposed to extreme and distressing material. However relational trauma, for example in relation to bullying, may produce a strong response in both clients and us as therapists.
My interest is also in providing Supervision to those working with BME and minority groups. Clearly involving awareness of many cultural issues and language barriers. However, the definition of ‘culture’ is wide, therefore may refer to very local inner city or rural cultures and the challenges encountered.
My background is of working within the NHS setting/emergency services, CAMHS, providing therapy within the Mental Health Services in Hull. I currently work with victims of crime and cross culturally with displaced families and individuals fleeing war and conflict/abuse. In addition I have in the past established a counselling service within a local secondary school. I am currently employed with a charity in Hull, providing Internal Clinical Supervision to a team of therapists working with BME minority groups. This is providing both individual and group Clinical Supervision and skills exchange sessions. I also deliver training in Hull and north and west Yorkshire.
It is my practice to initially meet with you as potential Supervisee for a half hour free of charge session to explore your requirements.

I am what is called an Integrative practitioner. This means that to the best of my ability, in dialogue with my client, I seek to develop a way of working which is most appropriate to your individual style and way of being. I draw especially from Humanistic and Existential approaches, Psychoanalytic approaches, and also from more solution-oriented approaches such as Cognitive and Behavioural approaches and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). I also offer a form of Philosophical Practice, and a form of Poetry or Literary Therapy.
Broadly, in Humanistic and Existential work the emphasis is on what is going on in the present, in the here and now, drawing from that creative renewal for living. In Psychoanalytic work the emphasis is upon how past patterns, sometimes from very early, repeat themselves, and also can transform themselves, in the present. More solution-oriented approaches offer specific methods to relieve the symptoms and manifestations of particular problems. Philosophical Practice draws from the philosophical traditions of West and East to address issues about ‘way of life’ in general – which can have a surprising impact on specific life difficulties also. Poetry and Literary Therapy draws from the wisdom of the world’s great literature and art to widen perspective, release feeling in a non-pathologising way, and open doors to new life possibilities.
I have written articles, [see http://hewardwilkinson.co.uk/writings], and a book, The Muse as Therapist, (Karnac Press), about philosophical and literary approaches to psychotherapy and counselling. My book, which is not an easy read, is at:
My doctoral commentary, which is somewhat more accessible, is at:

Previous Board Member of UKCP, EAP, I am Vice President of the European Association for Integrative Psychotherapy (EAIP). Editor of the Leavis Society Newsletter, and Committee Member of the De Vere Society, Great Britain, my current field of enquiry is the understanding of Historicity/Historical Consciousness as primary paradigms for human existence.
